Born and raised in Kansas City, Brenna grew up a professional theater kid. Quickly caught the “bug” and found herself in New York City at 17 studying and working with Wynn Handman {American Palace Theater}, Neil Wolfe {Columbia Records] and broadway veteran, Nancy Evers. Her love for the American songbook and singers like Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Dinah Washington, Cab Calloway and Etta James took her focus from theater to the music industry. Through years of ups and downs, paying dues and rediscovery and has quickly established herself as one of the top vocalists in Los Angeles.
Brenna recorded her first album last year, “Introducing...Brenna Whitaker” Up-and-comer, Jumaane Smith (Michael Buble, Stevie Wonder) produced and played on it. She has the best young jazz players in LA on it together on it celebrating the American Songbook. Brenna is passionate about keeping vintage music alive and telling the history behind the songs at her live shows. Even in a economy that’s musical budget sometimes suffers, don’t be surprised if you see a full horn section at one of her shows.
